Firm History
MQB represents the legacy of Lake Charles’ longest-standing CPA firms. The firm in its current form was established through a series of mergers that brought together four respected accounting practices with deep roots in the region.
Our earliest foundation dates back to 1925, when Victor Canfield founded Canfield, Burch & Mancuso. In the early 1940s, Charles I. McElroy and Charles P. Quirk each established their own public accounting firms, which later became McElroy, Quirk & Company. Meanwhile, Gus Schram & Co., LTD began in 1957, originally as Hollins and Schram, founded by Art Hollins and Gus Schram Jr.
In 1991, McElroy, Quirk & Company merged with Canfield, Burch & Mancuso. In 2005, the combined firm merged with Gus Schram & Co., LTD, forming what is now McElroy, Quirk & Burch. On December 1, 2015, MQB acquired the practice of Barrett Consulting, APC. On August 1,2021, MQB purchased the practice of Darrell J. Morris, CPA, APC. Together, we’ve built nearly a century of continuous service, grounded in experience, professionalism, and a commitment to the Lake Charles community.
Our Firm Today
With decades of sustained growth, MQB is proud to serve clients with a team of experienced professionals, including certified public accountants, directors, principals, and degreed staff. We also maintain a dedicated support team to ensure the highest level of client service and operational efficiency.
Our office remains rooted in Lake Charles, where the firm has operated throughout its history. Our professionals are residents of Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis Parishes and are licensed to practice public accounting in both Louisiana and Texas.

Our accounting and auditing practice is subject to oversight through the LCPA Peer Review Program. This review helps ensure our adherence to the most rigorous quality management standards in the profession. Each of our peer reviews conducted over the last several decades have confirmed that our accounting and auditing practice meets or exceeds the established expectations.
